Red Mangrove Propagules (Rhizophora mangle)
Description:
The Red
Mangrove is one of the three Mangrove species found
in the Florida Mangrove coastal ecological
community. It is characterized by: reddish brown
trunk and limbs with elongated tangled looking prop
roots of the same color; green canopy of oval shaped
leaves; can be grown in up to three feet of water;
medium in height ( 20-30'); roots trap silt and
sediments and filter salt water; serves as excellent
shelter and nursery for juvenile fish, crabs, spiny
lobster, other shellfish, and birds, and reduces
shoreline erosion.

White Mangrove Seeds (Laguncularia recemosa)
Description:
The White Mangrove is one of the three Mangrove
species found in the Florida Coastal Mangrove
ecological community. It can be characterized by the
following traits: Light yellow green leaves with 2
small glands on the bottom of the leaf; central
trunk with scaly, reddish brown bark; 40' to 60' in
height with a narrow rounded crown; grows in both
high tide areas or shoreline.

Black Mangrove Seeds (Avicennia germinans)
Description:
The Black Mangrove is one of the three mangrove
species found in the Florida Coastal Mangrove
ecological community. It is characterized by the
following traits: Central trunk which is covered
with dark brown bark with vertical furrows between
flat scaly, squarish blocks; oblong shaped leaves
with a shiny upper surface usually coated with salt
and a hairy underneath surface; pneumataphores which
grow up out of the soil and extend out along the
horizontal roots; typically grows to a height
of 50' and found right along the hightide line or
further inland from the water.
